Worman’s Mill Village Center
Worman’s Mill Village Center is the final parcel of a traditional neighborhood development, which was initially conceived over two decades ago. Worman’s Mill was originally planned as a walkable, non-senior housing community that preserved open space with a retail center in the Village Center. With older life-long residents moving to traditional CCRC’s, the developer recognized that the aging homeowners were looking for senior-friendly housing, retail services, and residential amenities that continued to support their lifestyles. Since the original homes included ground floor master bedrooms and baths, the developer saw an opportunity to transform the Village Center to include assisted living, in-home services, and additional senior-friendly housing. The result is a Village Center that creates a “virtual CCRC” that provides accessible, senior targeted housing, a la carte access to a range of restaurant, retail, and care available right outside their doors. Through a variety of technologies, a “village network” is created that also provides in-home services to the surrounding 1,500 homes.
The plan is arranged to respect and existing community square with a gazebo and landscaped open space. The buildings are designed to break down the proportional scale of the overall mass, and style is reflective of many historic downtowns of the Mid-Atlantic city.
